The Electrics
Click to see Larger Image You might want a simple natural pond and not need any electrics. but if like us you want a waterfall then you will at least need a pump. The most important thing with the electrics is to use proper external electric extensions and an RCB. If your not sure what your doing here then its worth asking for professional help from an electrician. We bought two pumps for our waterfall as it was over a foot wide and we wanted a really good flow. (They were both in sales towards the end of the summer so we probably got the two for the normal price of one!) The pumps not only make the waterfall look good, but also help to oxygenate the water for fish.

The pumps have a small filter on them that will create a biological filter if left on 24 hours a day, but this filter is primarily to stop debris clogging the filter and too small to be very effective. Whether you need a huge filtration system or indeed a filter at all will depend on the types and amounts of fish you are going to have. We bought a UV filter, mainly to fight the algae build up.

There are lots of different types to choose from. We have used just simple lighting to create a nice glow around the pond area. (we're still saving for under-water lighting!)
