The San Francisco Garter has a yellowish stripe that runs down its back, each side of this is a blue stripe. The snakes head is red, and its under body is a light greenish color. Like most garters the snakes can store the sperm in their bodies throughout winter. They give birth in the warm months of July and August.

They give birth to between 10 and 25 live young. The San Francisco Garter can be found on the San Francisco peninsula near water. They eat small fish, frogs and other small Amphibians.
